Video of inaugural Chinese iPhone knock-off
Via macdailynews.com, YouTuber “benjamin1272” has posted a video of one of, if not the, very first Chinese knock-off of Apple’s iPhone. Other phones trying to be iPhones are around, but this is the first classic Chinese knock-off that macdailynews.com has seen stealing the Apple logo, icons, etc.

Gizmodo is giving away an iPhone for free (sort of)
Gizmodo.com is giving away an iPhone for free (sort of). Eureka, the show on Sci-Fi, is helping them deliver Apple’s newest toy to one Gizmodo reader.
Here’s what you have to do to win: Create or design an original invention (emphasis on original – no recycled projects please) and send in a sketch, render, mockup, blueprint or some kind of image plus a description detailing your invention to contests@gizmodo.com with “Made in Eureka” as the subject. The better it is, the better your chances are of winning.

Did Apple shrink the iPhone just days before its release? No—but it certainly looks like they tried to. boingboing.net noticed that Apple has changed the size of the hand that holds the iPhone in their ads. With a quick comparison of the official Apple photos, you will see what all the fuss is about.
My view has always been that the iPhone is a bit on the large side. Sure, as a true PDA replacement the size is not so bad. But a replacement for my compact RAZR, no. Perhaps if they started with the bigger hand in the first place I could have been convinced. For now, it is still huge.
It’s official: No Flash support on the iPhone
Sources at WWDC are reporting that there is officially no Flash support on the iPhone. Apparently, in the State of the Media address yesterday, the announcement was made that: “There will be no Flash support at the moment on the iPhone.” Developers are being told not to serve video via Flash, as there simply isn’t a player built for the phone yet.

Via crave.cnet.com, After 5+ years of development, Microsoft shows off a top-secret multi touch screen kiosk device. Apple really has to be hoping that this technology does not get introduced into Windows mobile devices, because Microsoft could possibly blow away the iPhone (p.s. I never thought that I would say that).
The kiosk implications are endless—let’s just hope that it can use Flash.

Samsung on Thursday unveiled what it says is one of the world’s most advanced smartphones. Closely resembling the minimalist design of the iPhone, the Ultra Smart F700 is conspicuously targeted at “the recent trend” in touchscreens, according to the Korean company. A 2.8-inch, 440×240 screen is used to control calling, Internet, and music functions. It further includes VibeTonz, a vibration system introduced in the recent W559 that simulates tactile feedback to touchscreen presses. A further resemblance to its American counterpart is a singular navigation button. In contrast to Apple’s device, however, the F700 also contains a slide-out physical keyboard for messaging and heavy-duty browsing.

Sad. Very sad. The iPhone may not be Flash enabled.
According to Pogue’s Posts (Tech editor for the NY Times), The iPhone does not and will not run Flash. It makes sense from a marketing perspective—keep out free games, apps, and videos—but this makes me sad.
Here is an excerpt from Pogue’s article (p.s. He actually played with one):
Can it be used with anything but Cingular? –No.
Can it run Mac OS X programs? –No.
Can I add new programs to it? –No. Apple wants to control the look and feel and behavior of every aspect of the phone.
Does it run programs from Palm, Symbian, Windows? –No.
Does it have games? –No.
Does it have GPS? –No.
Does the Web browser support Flash or Java? –No.

Markoff: “What about all those plugins that live within Safari now, like Flash or like Java or like JavaScript?”
Jobs: “Well, JavaScript’s built into the Phone. Sure.”
Markoff: “And what are you thinking about Flash and Java?”
Jobs: “Java’s not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.”
Markoff: “Flash?”
Jobs: “Well, you might see that.”
Markoff: “What about YouTube–”
Jobs: “Yeah, YouTube—of course. But you don’t need to have Flash to show YouTube. All you need to do is deal with YouTube. And plus, we could get ‘em to up their video resolution at the same time, by using h.264 instead of the old codec.”
