SMS campaign demonstration. Feedback requested.
We are experimenting with sending phones SMS messages based on actions within a Flash Lite movie. To test this, we have implimented a way for our visitors to sample an SMS campaign—simply type your mobile number in the form located at the top right of our blog. Use the following format: 12165261544 (country code + area code + local number). Unfortunately, we have not been able to test this on all carriers or outside of the United States. If you do test this, please comment on the success or failure of the text message delivery by including your country and cell phone carrier.

How To Cancel Verizon Wireless Without An Early Termination Fee
Verizon Wireless is increasing their text messaging rates by 50% and you can use that to get out of your contract. (Starting March 1 it will cost you 15 cents to send and receive instead of 10 cents.) A cancellation script was constructed on another blog for people to use during the call. They use scripts on us so why shouldn’t we have one too?
You can view the script here. It’s helping quite a few people cancel without a fee. Even if you don’t want to cancel your contract with them, you should still use it to get a credit on text messaging for the remaining life of your contract. Do it before March 1. Thirty minutes of your time can save you over fifty bucks.

Nokia To Intro N77 Consumer-Priced Mobile TV Cellphone Next Week?
Via Gizmodo, Nokia may unveil the N77, a consumer-aimed, moderately priced cellphone with TV capabilities.
Big bad Reuters let it slip that Nokia will unveil at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona next week the N77, a consumer-aimed, moderately priced cellphone with TV capabilities. The N77, which should resemble other N7x phones like the N70 here, will be able to receive TV broadcast by way of DVB-H, a nascent mobile TV technology that is currently undergoing tests in several markets around the world. So what?
Nokia wants to jump start the mobile TV market, which up until now has really only taken off in Korea, if that. And no, we’re not talking about downloading hot videoz picked out by your cellphone carrier, but actual programming. One problem seems to be that people just aren’t that excited to watch video on their mobile devices if the screen isn’t large enough. We should find out more once the Barça conference hits, hopefully with pretty pics of the phone, too.

Sorry to have been away. I was visiting Vancouver, BC.
Sorry for the lack of posts the past few days—I have been away on business in Vancouver, BC. Along with the opportunity to see haunting anti-smoking ads (p.s. I don’t smoke), I have been poking my head into a few cell phone shops. Nothing really has come up that I haven’t already seen online. The undiscovered Flash Lite gem that I was hoping to find never did appear. Oh well.
A few of the highlights were the views and the food. So far, I have eaten at Bin 941 twice. I would plan a vacation around this tapas restaurant. The food is unspeakably good. I have eaten at many restaurants, but this one was the best of my life in so many ways.
The scenic views around Vancouver have been amazing. This is one of the most beautiful cities I have every seen. When I was flying in, the mountains were absolutely breathtaking. I would rate this a must-visit place.

Robert Redford pilots handset movies
A post on Mobile Monday is reporting that Robert Redford has commissioned six independent filmmakers to create five short films, crafted exclusively for mobile distribution.
“Cell phones are fast becoming the ‘fourth screen’ medium, after television, cinema and computers,” said Sundance Institute president and founder Robert Redford. “We feel this experiment embodies fully, our quarter-century dedication to exploring new platforms to support wider distribution of independent voices in filmmaking. We are excited about bringing this opportunity to independent filmmakers and most excited to see what they will do with it,” added Redford.

Dodgeball.com – Using LBS, this tool finds friends and crushes near you
This may be old news but it is new news to me. One of Time Magazine’s 50 best sites is actually valid as a best site. http://www.dodgeball.com lets you join a community that uses location-based services (LBS) to find other community members via your mobile.
Basically, you log in via your cell and send an SMS message with your location—this gets broadcast to your friends. The other service dodgeball.com offers is notifying your crushes (that you define via dodgeball.com) that you are within 10 city blocks of them. It’s pretty cool. The homepage has an animated tutorial.
